Skilled dog groomers attend schools or use apprenticeships to hone their dog grooming skills. They also have to become well versed in using dog grooming clippers to be able to do cuts that are breed specific, such as for cocker spaniels or poodles. They are in certain cases a veterinarian’s or a dog owner’s best friend since they have an understanding knowing what is typical and what isn’t. But many dog owners don’t have the funds for trips to the groomer every couple of weeks, and so they have to discover how to use the tools of the trade, mainly Dog Clippers, for themselves.

Possibly you’ve bought some good Dog Clippers so you are able to do more of your dog’s straightforward grooming at home. That’s an admirable thing to do, as lots of dogs find trips to the groomer to be nerve-racking. Plus, the costs of a professional groomer can rapidly add up. Maybe you’re having some trouble with the more complicated areas of grooming. Basic all-over hair trimming with the Dog Clippers is easy, but what about the difficult areas like your pooch’s paws, tail, ears, and muzzle? You might just need some practice to get better at maintaining these areas.

With your dog’s paws, you may simply have to put the dog grooming clippers away and rely on scissors. Most dogs aren’t fond of electric clippers moving around their paws. But they’re usually more amenable to a few snips of excess hair with a good pair of scissors that are just used for dog grooming.

Your dog’s tail is another part that can be tricky to groom easily and effectively. You can use the dog grooming clippers down the length of your dog’s back, stopping at the base of his tail. It might make it even easier if you have another person occupy your dog’s attention, by petting him. You’ll want to keep your dog’s tail straight, without pulling on it. Clip the hair on the end of the tail very carefully, with your scissors. Repeat this again, with the sides of your dog’s tail, always being careful not to cut his tail. You can also trim the hind area while you’ve got his tail held straight. Many dog owners and groomers will also shear the dog’s back end with dog grooming clippers to keep him cleaner.

Your dog’s ears and face are other sensitive areas where you must be extra careful. Imagine how you would feel with someone coming next to your face with scissors or dog grooming clippers. Your dog may let you trim the areas behind his ears and on his neck with the dog hair clippers, but it all depends on the individual dog. But, when trimming around the ears, you should always use your scissors. Simply lift and hold your dog’s ears up and out of the path of your scissors as you clip around them. Trimming your dog’s snout should be kept to a minimum. With care, clip excess hair hanging from his snout, using scissors only.

One of the most imperative steps in the grooming process comes when you’ve put away the dog grooming clippers, shears, and scissors, and that is praising and rewarding your dog for letting you groom him. This is the perfect opportunity for a hug (after all, he’s all tidy!) and even a training treat or dog biscuit. Then you may even take a few dollars of that money you’ve saved on groomer’s fees and treat yourself to a well deserved ice cream sundae.
